The international Business Conference highlighting the present and future outlook of Organic Lighting-Emitting Diode(OLED) is held.

“UBI Research(the president, Choong hoon Yi)” specialized in OLED industry, has announced that “The 1st OLED KOREA Conference” will take a place 2nd of April, 2015 at The Korea Science and Technology Centre(SC Convention) located in Yeoksam-Dong, Gangnam- Gu.

This event’s main agenda is to review the current issue and to figure out the best practice to response it as OLED is becoming more widely used especially in TV, Automotive vehicle, Lighting, Smart phone etc.

Choong hoon Yi, the president of UBI Research will provide a perspective of the future of Flexible OLED as well as the factors why OLED TV will lead the market even though the technology for LCD is still continuously improving.

JENAX, free transform flexible battery J.Flex

The markets for the bended smart phone and smart watch are to be advanced in full scale as the flexible (plastic) OLED production processes of Samsung Display and LG Display are stabilized.

Samsung Display is drawing world’s attention as releasing curved products using flexible OLED for health care gears of Galaxy Fit and Galaxy Gear S and for smartphones like Galaxy Round and Galaxy Note Edge. For LG Display’s G Flex is a product evolved from curved to bended, the internal structure of its battery also requires either curved or flexible design.

Korean company JENAX has succeeded in developing the flexible battery J.Flex following LG Chemicals and Samsung SDI. The prominent feature of J.Flex is that it can be transformed as a user wishes, allowing itself to be applied for and complement various wearable devices besides a smart watch.

The size of a smart watch battery of JENAX is 26cm x 5.2cm and the personnel from the JENAX said that it is available in various thicknesses and capacities available for the use of smart phones. And he also introduced that the battery has passed all safety tests to be applied on products.

Taiwan grows OLED lighting industry

According to CTIMES, a Taiwanese professional electronics industry medium, the OLED Lighting Commercialization Alliance (OLCA) was recently established for the development of the OLED lighting industry in Taiwan. Founding members of the OLCA are the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) and Taiwan Lighting Fixture Export Association (TLFEA), and various companies from materials to manufacturing are members of the OLCA. It is consisted of five committees such as lamps, lighting design, materials, fixtures and optical engines.

Chairman of TLFEA, Steve Lin said, “the OLED is ideal for proximity lightings and it is already installed in luxury apartment in Taiwan. Due to the expensive price of the OLED compare to the LED, it is not in mass-production, but it will become a standard lighting in all households within 3 years.” Vice President of ITRI, C.T.Liu, also forecasted the OLED playing an important role in IoT (Internet of Thing) sector and emphasized that Taiwan will be the center of the OLED lighting industry.

“2014 OLED lighting Annual Report” by UBI research forecasted that the OLED lighting market will be about US M$ 4,700 by 2020.

UBI Research, Hosting International OLED Workshop

An event will be held to exchange information with experts from the world on OLED, which suggests new solutions lighting market and brings positive changes to a staggering display market with introduction of a flexible smartphone and a curved TV.

On 12 th, UBI Research, a market research and consulting firm specialized in the OLED, announced that it will host ‘the 2nd Annual Korea OLED Workshop’ at COEX conference room in Samsung-dong on June 24th.

Merger between COMEDD and Fraunhofer FEP

Fraunhofer FEP announced its merger with COMEDD, a research institute of Fraunhofer on July 5th.

The beginning of COMEDD was a research agency of Fraunhofer IPMS focusing on organic materials and electronic devices. It became an independent research institute of Fraunhofer in July, 2012. It is known that the merger with Fraunhofer FEP is to gain competitiveness for OLED by naming itself as COMEDD FEP.

Director of COMEDD FEP, Prof. Volker Kirchhoff, is hopping that the merger will contribute to development of barrier film for flexible organic components and the OLED based micro-display sector. It will focus on developing large area flexible sheet and the OLED lighting sheet by combining electron beam tech. and plasma tech. of Fraunhofer FEP and organic semiconductors tech. of COMEDD.
